Happy Owl--O-Ween!

Okay, so I have day dreamed about these cookies for weeks just waiting for it to get JUST close enough to halloween that I could start working on them. And when I say "working on them", I mean WORKING on them. I made 18 of these cheery little cookies and it took me a good 5 days of a production line-type assembly , starting with the adorable fondant owls. Today I finished them up by baking the sugar cookies, creating the royal icing background, adding the buttercream branch and plopping on the owls. LOTS of work, but really... I couldn't be happier with the way the turned out, so it was totally worth it! I love little "occasions" to whip out all the stops on pretty little treats! And with a cute tag-line of "Happy Owl-o-ween", which includes a chevron background & mini owl perched on the text....who could resist?!

Cookies

Okay....I seriously need a lower calorie hobby (aside from designing graphically), cause I have found another "baking" activity that I enjoy along-side cakes and cupcakes. I have been ooo-and-awing over "flooded" sugar cookies for a long time now and finally took the plunge to try doing them myself. (And for a first timer, they didn't turn out too hideously).

Talk about fun! I love the fact that you are creating an image on the cookie free-hand w/no guidance than the cookie's shape itself. It's like painting masterpieces with icing. :0)

My creative-artsy side loves this type of art....my love handles, on the other hand.....not so much
