New Look

In celebration of the new year I am giving my logo a fresh new look--opting for a more clean & simple design within the typography & use colors. I am really excited to start using this in 2011!

A few business aspirations for the new year, among many others:
  • New business cards featuring new logo design

  • Possibility of opening an Etsy shop

  • Design a CD label/CD sleeve for photography services

  • "Marketing" endeavors

The Severson Family

While this shoot was sabotaged by very cold temps & wet weather, the members of this family proved to be troopers! Look at them--coatless and all in the middle of a Utah winter! I was excited to receive a phone call from Erma who wanted family photos that would include herself with her daughter, and her cute grandkids so that she may have them for posterity--and here are a couple of photos from our shoot. Thanks for being such great sports guys, you're great!

Pratt Family Christmas Card

This is the 2010 Christmas card I designed by request from my mom. She wanted a "vintage" feel too it, which means you can never go wrong using a damask print (which I still love, even now that it's been around for quite a while). We stuck with traditional Christmas colors but kept them rich and added a bit of brown--which I feel helped hold together the vintage feel.

2011 Pantone Color of the Year

Pantone is a corporation known for their color matching system that is used world-wide in design/printing, fabric, paint, plastics, you-name-it, industries. Having such a system allows for designers & manufacturers to produce accurate colors throughout the production process anywhere in the world, and allows for easy communication when it comes to ensuring accurate color between pre and post production of products.

Having said that, at the end of each year Pantone announces the "Color of the Year" for the upcoming year, and this year they have named. . . Honeysuckle!

I love this color and am excited to see it in fashion trends, home decor, and give it a try in some of my own projects this upcoming year. You can check out the full article about this pretty lil' color here. I think this would be great paired with a chocolate brown or deep olive green hue. Yummy....

(Top 10 fashion colors for Spring 2011 can be seen here, which I'm also excited for as design often mimics that of the fashion world)

The Brady Family

I had the privilege of doing a photo shoot for this fun family's Christmas cards/yearly family photos. We tried our luck at a few locations and I think we got some great shots. These kids are very patient and held up really well through the whole shoot. I was impressed! Thanks for letting me work with you guys, hope you like enjoy your pics!

2010 Christmas Card

Yes, we are fully aware that we are "those" types of weirdos who include our dog in our Christmas card photo. But really...how can you not with a face like that? This year I suppose I wanted something a little less-traditional and more playful as far as colors, wording and graphics went. (Last year's can be seen here). I really liked how "clean" it turned out and the red and turquoise gave the suggestion of the holiday season, w/o having to scream "IT'S CHRISTMAS!"

Hailey + Justin : Thank You Note

As a follow up to Hailey and Justin's wedding, I was asked to design a thank you card, including a photo of them on their wedding day, that they could send to their guests who attended. We again, like the wedding invitation, used their colors and made their wedding photo their main element.

Teaming Up: Whispering Walls Vinyl

I have been working with a friend of mine, Hayley, who owns a vinyl business along with her sister, Cami---Whispering Walls (see the button on the right hand column to check out some of their stuff, or click here) to produce a few designs I created initially for personal use and wanted to share them here.

I designed this as a gift to my parents for their 25th wedding anniversary. I choose a black marble tile and had the girls at Whispering Walls cut the graphic out of white vinyl. I loved the intense contrast of the two. It's very "now" yet still classic.

These next two are designs I created for the walls of our house, and while it's not the best quality photo, the utinsels below are cut from a metallic brassy-bronze vinyl (really pretty) and stand approximately 3 feet in height. I love how striking they are and how they serve as the focal point for my kitchen.

Below: I really loved this quote by Gordon B. Hinckley and wanted to incorporate it in a design where I could see it daily as a personal reminder. This is in black vinyl on an olive/moss green wall (although Cami later used this same design for her bedroom but in a blue vinyl, and it was really cute too). I love the whimsical yet contemporary feel it has to it.

Below: Here is a composition I created as a gift for our boss. Hayley then choose colors for it, cut from vinyl, and placed it on a tile. Two color variations can be seen below.

Of course, these were possible because of my collaboration with Whispering Walls. With the holidays fast approaching (or as a gift any time of the year, or for yourself) feel free to let us know if you are interested in purchasing vinyl crafts/decor, or would like custom vinyl graphics designed.

Thorpe Family

This is the Thorpe family (how about that baby, cutie eh?), I happen to work with Lisa and was thrilled when she asked if I would take some photos of her family to use as Christmas gifts, and for sentimental value as her son will be leaving on a mission soon. Although we had some issues with the weather/overcast we were able to squeeze in a few good shots and I was grateful for their patience. Here are a few pics from our shoot--we managed to capture some of the beautiful fall colors.

Ava: Baby Announcement

Meet Ava, my niece. Isn't she a cutie? I was thrilled when Jen, my sister in law, asked if I would design Ava's baby announcement. I loved the idea of incorporating a picture of big sister, Natalie, on the announcement along with the adorable red-head herself.
