The latest assignment for my Digital Imaging class was to learn and demonstrate the "correct" way to create a black and white photo, as well as to use burning and dodging. I love black and white photos for the mood they convey in regards to the subject. Here are a couple shots from my photo shoot today.
I also loved this one in color:

March Raffle Invite
I told you more were coming! This is the latest invite for our March Sub for Santa Raffle at work. Everyone is starting to get spring fever and are tired of this yucky, gray weather so I thought this theme was appropriate to brighten everyone's mood. I love the cheerful colors and the way the grass and frog sort of peek out over the side borders. Besides, how could you not want to participate when welcomed by a sweet face like that?

Alicia & Seth
Alicia and Seth were my latest wedding invitation clients, and they were so great to work with! When we met to discuss the details they knew exactly which photos they wanted to use and preferred what I consider to be a classic style layout (one larger photo and three smaller). They also wanted to incorporate their royal blue and lavender wedding colors on the invitation. I was excited to experiment a bit with the colors and found they worked so well together. I think the outcome was wonderful and am so glad they allowed me to design their invitation. Best wishes to you guys are you start your journey together!

Raffle Invitation
At work our department works all year long to raise money for a Sub-for-Santa program and by the end of the year we usually have a couple thousand dollars to give to needy families at Christmas time. It's a great program and one of the biggest fundraisers are our raffles. Each employee is asked to purchase and donate an item relating to the theme (our next one is going to be a Spring/Easter theme) and then purchases tickets to put in to win the items.
This year I have been asked to help out with the Sub for Santa program for our department and designed this invitation to kick off our first raffle. It was a big hit and felt it did a great job to set the mood, get people thinking about the event, and kick off our first raffle of the year. (Of course the white corners you can see were trimmed to more resemble a raffle ticket) The raffle itself was so successful that we have decided to hold one every month to raise money...so it sounds like there are gonna be many more invites to come in the mix.

Valentine's 2010
I love any excuse to make "pretty" treats and give to people, and Valentine's Day happens to be one of those excuses. Not only do I love making the treat itself look cute, I especially love packaging, tagging, and adding my own special details to them. (Luckily I work with a whole office full of women who can appreciate this obsession). This year my mom and I chocolate-dipped and pink-sprinkled Oreo cookies, put them in bags, tied them with an appropriate "red lipstick kiss" ribbon and finished it off with a tag I designed. I loved the typography used for the tag, I thought it looked clean and simple yet still created the Valentine day theme using words and colors reminiscent of the holiday .

Farewell Announcement
A good friend that I work with asked me if I would design a mission farewell announcement for her son that she could send out to her family and friends. I was really excited to help out with this project because 1. I think Julie is the best and 2. I've never done something like this before. Now, I realize it's not anything extremely different from a baby or graduation announcement, but it was a unique occasion and I was excited to take a shot at it. I think it turned great, I love the colors and the quote that was incorporated into the layout. Thanks Julie for the opportunity and good luck to you Morgan on your mission!
